The National League for Democracy in UK

Since 1990s, in UK there have been a lot of Burmese pro-democracy activists from the National League for Democracy (NLD) party,  working individually as exile activists, with Dr. WIn Naing acting as the main representative in UK for Daw Aung San Suu Kyi and NLD party.

But in recent years, the exile Burmese democratic community in UK has become quite strong and active.

And the British Government, British politicians and British people become more and more interested and supportive to Burmese pro-democracy movement.

And, since the beginning of 2007, the political situation in Burma become very dynamic showing sings of reaching a crucial stage.

Because of all these reasons, the 2007 conference of NLD party exile branches at their Head Quarter in Thai-Burma border area decided it was time to form a branch of NLD party in UK.

With that mandate from the Head Quarters, and after intensive discussions in UK among activists with NLD backgrounds, NLD (Liberated Area, UK) foundation conference meeting was held in May 2007 in London.

And on 27.05.2007, the 17th Anniversary of landslide election victory of NLD party in Burma, the National League for Democracy (Liberated Area, UK) "NLD-LA-UK" was officially formed.
